The Punjab State government has granted financial aid of Rs. 30 crores for the upgradation of the CETP to ensure smooth functioning of leather complex situated in Jalandhar. It was announced by the Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora.
The grant will help in augmenting the Common Effluent Treatment Plant’s current capacity of treating 5 MLD to 11 MLD. The move will also ensure lesser environmental pollution caused by leather companies and tanneries through discharge of waste in water bodies.
Additionally, the leather companies in the complex will also be facilitated with a new CETP, as informed by Arora. The modalities regarding the same have been completed and the work on it would start very soon.
In a series of announcements made, next was the refund of Rs 100 crore VAT to the industrialists by the end of this month. And, remaining Rs 200 crore VAT refund would be issued within coming two months. “Due to industry friendly policies of Punjab government, industrialists have invested about Rs 50,000 crore which led to creation of lakhs of jobs providing employment to the unemployed youth,” said Arora. The Industrial Policy framed in 2017 has given a Philip to companies in Border and Kandi areas of the State.
Regarding frequent inspections of leather companies, the government has given a green signal for joint inspection to be conducted by Labour, Pollution and Industry department for which prior intimation would be given to the concerned unit online. This has been done to eliminate inconvenience factor caused to industrialists.
